The Root Lake South (3,403 hectares) and Otatakan (408 hectares) properties are located 90 km east north of Sioux Lookout, Ontario.
The properties are within the English River Subprovince immediately south of the English River-Uchi Subprovince boundary. Subprovince boundary zones are generally thought to be prospective locations for the occurrence of LCT pegmatites.
Preliminary reconnaissance prospecting has confirmed the presence of large pegmatites (over 10 m width) on both properties. Indicator minerals such as garnets, tourmaline, muscovite, green mica and blocky K-feldspar were observed within the pegmatites. Recent logging activities provide new outcrop exposures and access to areas of the properties previously inaccessible.
The nearest occurrence of spodumene-bearing pegmatites are the McCombe pegmatites located 5 km north of Otatakan and the Root Bay pegmatites located 900 meters north of Root Bay South.
Next steps include identifying the location and orientation of pegmatites, noting the characteristics of them and sampling them for geochemical analysis to determine the degree and direction of fractioning, and testing for the presence of rare-element mineralization.
